Crunch opinions

My blogfriend Shail Mohan, besides being a a wonderful and perceptive blogger, poet, is also an excellent photographer.

She posted this mouthwatering photograph on her photoblog,  Shots and Captures

Sometimes the urge to grab a handful (of peanuts, that is ) results in a poem ....#just sayng :-)

Brides
in wedding vermillion,
spiced
with
fine tasteful jewellery,
crowded together
at the venue…

Fewer fertile fields,
the obsession with the male crop,
fewer girls,
and the
popping corns
crowd around
the swayamwara premises,
packed in sections,
so turmerically wedding-ready…..

The brides,
keep an open mind,
and enjoy all;
children’s pockets,
little fists,
with older folks ,flowing with beer ,
sitting in newspaper wraps
on trains and buses…
just everywhere.

The popped fellows,
constrained
behind the restrictive
plastic wraps,
sometimes buttered in flattery,
huddle together,
wondering
how
the sex ratio
got so skewed…….

Nutty affairs

Under certain circumstances, the humble peanut can manifest itself as the sophisticated almond and high-brow walnut, or even both.

Folks like my friend Uma, prove that, again and again, when they decide to surprise their families with cookies, freshly baked in the afternoon, no doubt enjoyed with wonderful south Indian filter kapi.

The staid peanuts
sat bored
till
in a fit of affection
she crushed them
and
drowned them
in a sea of butter and sugar,
to emerge
with a makeover,
pouting hot
from an oven….

Mesmerized by
the aroma,
he bit into one,
savouring the nuttiness,
saying,
“Hmm. Something nutty ?
Walnuts ? Almonds ?”

And abashed,
they simply dissolved
in his mouth,
preferring that
to
watching
the lady explain,
that walnuts and almonds,
were not a patch
on peanuts
wrapped in love,
sprinkled with caring
proudly puffed in pride,
made by a lady,
for a great family,
on a lonesome
afternoon in Chennai…..
