Morning Invocation

Bharatnatyam practice
in a hall
still wet with
the early cleaning;
They stand
dry and tired,
practicing mudras,
sarees
tucked at the waist,
and then
a few steps,
all in line,
hands raised,
as they invoke
Someone Up There.

The actual day,
some moons later,
will see
silks in green,
and red,
and brown,
and yellow…

The Performance
of Spring,
applauded by the hills,
as they dance
in Unison
eyes shining
hands uplifted,
holding the
Leaves of Life….
